WHY DOES YOUR TALENT NEED A DIALECT COACH?
Because you want them to sound great, be easily understood, and to take their work as actors to higher levels of greatness.
Working with me, they'll become comfortable and confident in whatever dialect they are working on with the objective being that they won't need to think about it in the moment and can instead put all of their attention on their acting.
I can coach your actors in any dialect of English.
If I haven't coached it before, my research and analysis can make sure I am ready to teach it quickly.
Authenticity, attention to detail, and putting actors at ease within dialects are my specialty. I have experience working with actors of all levels of experience and backgrounds from a first-timer on set to seasoned professionals with 30 or 40 features to their names.
If your actor has a foreign or regional accent, I have an extensive background in accent modification (reduction).
I have worked internationally with many different nationalities in this way and once coached an entire theatre company of Dutch actors in a play they premiered in Amsterdam and then took to The American Repertory Theatre to do before American audiences - now in English! I also spent many months working privately with Diana Schneider (The Good Shepherd, and Underdog) helping her turn her native Russian accent into an American one. And that is just a small sample of my work.
I am still a working actor and director in the theatre, voice over, and film, and that experience gives me a unique road in with other actors that is sometimes lacking in other dialect coaches.
My approach is direct, nurturing, and tends to bring out the best in the actor's process. My ultimate goal is to support the director's vision for the piece and to prepare the actor to be able to be at their best when doing the same.
Finally, I don't just focus on the sounds of the dialect, but rather, I mine into the depths of how that dialect aids the actor's exploration of their character. The dialect is, after all, one of many tools that actor must use to achieve success, and is an important element of storytelling!

THREE PILLARS OF MY COACHING
Coaching in multiple accents: I am fluent in many dialects and in the International Phonetic Alphabet. More importantly, I have deep expertise in the sound systems that make up languages and accents, the mechanics of articulation, and in how to efficiently teach the physical skills actors need to sound authentic. In addition, I can act as a liaison for all other language experts you might employ, helping to assure that everyone’s work is in line with the overall artistic vision of the project.
Adaptability. I am experienced with many different techniques of acting and understand that each actor has developed their own way of working. I teach actors to master accents and speak in foreign languages without getting in the way of their professional acting process.
Efficiency. I prepare actor training materials extremely quickly, even for rarer accents. Because of my expertise in articulation and phonetics and my ease in communicating with actors, I can help actors deliver results even when time is short.
